Labs & Classrooms
You are here:
Computers in IT-supported classrooms and labs are equipped with software utilized in LIU courses, alleviating the need for students to purchase their own copies or bring their own computers to LIU campuses. All Information Technology Computer Labs are equipped with projectors, teacher stations, SmartBoards or interactive whiteboards, and a variety of software to enhance your instructional experience. Microsoft Office Suite of software, SPSS and the expected array of browsers and productivity tools are also standardized for instructional labs. Inquire about the educational technologies available by contacting your local IT offices. Workshops are available to faculty and administrators for using these and other technology tools in your classroom.

Course Management and Collaboration

Many instructors post class notes, syllabi, and other resources in class pages in local ITRC (Informaion Technology Resource Center). Every LIU course is automatically set up in the LMS, but the course material must be first set up by the instructor before students can access the site. When students or instructors log into the LMS with your LIU ID and password, each of your courses will automatically appear in the course navigation area of the workspace. Contact your campus Information Technology Resource Center for assistance with LMS issues.
To secure a computer lab for your course, please contact the Office of the Registrar at your campus.

Classroom Features

95% of the classrooms on the LIU campus are equipped with Smart Projection Technology. Features of the classrooms are:

  1. VGA/HDMI ports on the wall to connect your laptop
  2. A set of speakers mounted on the wall
  3. A MULTI-TOUCH enabled interactive wireless projector that allows you
    • PC-free touch- and pen-based interactivity: Two people can work simultaneously, or independently. Touch-based interactivity enables students and faculty to draw, share and interact using intuitive and familiar gestures.
    • Wireless interactivity: When using Epson EasyMP software with a networked BrightLink projector, faculty are no longer tied down by restrictive and confining cables. You can wirelessly display and interact with content as you move about the classroom with your laptop, experiencing a whole new level of interactive freedom.
    • Advanced network connectivity and management capabilities: Present your  content over the Wired and Wireless network.
    • Epson iProjection App: Display, annotate and control content from your iOS or Android mobile device with the free Epson iProjection App. Faculty  can walk around the class and still share engaging content. The app is easy to use and navigate with intuitive menu options that make it simple to bring iOS and Android content to the big screen.
  4. A fixed whiteboard that doubles as a projection surface.
  5. A wall mounted Crestron Control Panel that lets you: turn the system on/off, select source for projection and control the volume.

IT Computer Labs provides high tech services and teaching facilities for students and faculty members. We also strive to help our students and faculty members by providing software guidance with all computer applications on the network such as Microsoft Office Suite and SPSS.
Faculty needing to reserve a computer lab can do so by sending the course information (including meeting dates, times, instructor and course quota) to concetta.dimare@liu.edu

Key Services of the Computer Lab for Faculty/Staff and Students

  • The computer labs are free and available to be used by all LIU ID holding persons.
  • A shared My Documents folder on each computer is available to be used for Temporary Storage.
  • All labs are also equipped with tools to enhance academic instruction such as Projectors and SMART Boards.

Video Tutorial

The Brightlink 595wi is capable of using touch in two modes, PC Interactive and PC Free Annotation. To switch between these two modes, press “Mode” on the Crestron panel.
crestron-panel
PC Interactive Mode
With the use of a standard USB printer cable, the presenter can take control of their laptop or desktop computer while standing at the board. This mode is useful for minimizing back and forth travel between screen and computer. The presenter can navigate their computer with ease or go through their presentation with out loosing the engagement of their audience.
This function will not work through Wireless Network Projection

PC Free Annotation
The Annotation mode of the Brightlink 595wi allows you to illustrate on the board without use of special pens or markers. In this mode the presenter can mark-up or highlight anything presented on the board using the visual tool bar shown below. To access the toolbar touch the inward facing arrow side-menu-arrow-1 from the sides of the board.

tool-panel-2 Top to Bottom
Annotation selection: Choose between your projected screen OR a plain white surface.
Undo & Redo arrows: Step backwards or forwards in case of mistakes.
Lines & grids: Shows up only on the white board tab ( second tab). Touch to select a blank space, ruled lines or a grid.
Pen: Touch the down arrow to select line thickness and many colors.
Highlighter: Touch the down arrow line thickness and many colors.
Quick access markers: Black, Red and Blue. Touch either of the two circles to select a size.
Spot eraser: Touch either of the two circles to select a size.
Clear all: When selected, will ask if you want to erase the entire board.
Active input indicators: Indicators that show what input the board is receiving.
Pin: Down – will keep the tool bar open while you illustrate.
Up – will close the tool bar when you begin to illustrate.
Collaps: Manually close the toolbar.

Another option to display content on the Epson Brightlink 595wi is through the use of wireless projection.
