How can I read a CRES-encrypted message received at my LIU mail account?
When an email message is encrypted by the Cisco Registered Envelope Service (CRES), it is encrypted for the recipient’s email address alone. If you have a LIU mail account, messages sent to you at username@my.liu.edu
may automatically be forwarded to you at username@my.liu.edu
. This means that the address for which the message is encrypted is not necessarily the address in the message’s “To:” line. You will need to examine and possibly adjust the address on an incoming CRES-encrypted message in order to read it.
Note |
---|
The instructions here address the situation when an Long Island University student receives an encrypted message sent from an LIU email system (e.g., from a faculty or staff member’s Exchange account). Other situations might require different solutions, including:
In these cases, follow the instructions in How can I read a CRES-encrypted message? If you cannot view the message, see Why can I not read a CRES-encrypted message? If you have forwarded your email, try to determine the address to which the envelope was originally sent, and use that address to register and read the message. |
Recipients of encrypted messages will receive an email message stating “You have received a secure message”, with an attachment named securedoc.html
or securedoc_xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.html
(e.g., securedoc_20121027T114704.html). This securedoc file is the Cisco Registered Envelope.
